High School Diploma
A high school diploma is a diploma that a high school student would get for finishing high school. You could also get a high school diploma if you’re being taught online for homeschooling. Getting a high school diploma is not just for kids; it is for adults or the elderly too. If you dropped out of high school and would like to continue to get your diploma, then you can. You just have to find an adult school that is nearby you.
Here are some reasons why you should get a high school diploma:
- You won’t be able to go to college as almost all professions require a high school diploma.
- If you want to be an administrator or even a nurse, you need a high school diploma.
- You will be proud of the accomplishment, and you will be able to hang your diploma in your household or office at work.
Staying in High School
According to the National Dropout Prevention Center/Network at Clemson University (http://dropoutprevention.org/resources/statistics/quick-facts/why-students-drop-out/), there are many reasons why students drop out of high school, including:
- Having a kid while still in high school.
- Getting a job to support themselves since nobody could.
- Missing school a lot.
- Grades are falling and they couldn’t concentrate.
Are you thinking of dropping out of high school because high school may be too hard for you? I would recommend that you not drop out! New Heights Educational Group (NHEG) does provide services including tutoring.
There are many reasons or even excuses for someone to drop out and then decide to take high school again in an adult school. It’s your choice, but I recommend you don’t so that you could go forward and continue your education into college or even graduate school.
Online Adult School
If you want to do online adult high school, you can. The online high school Penn Foster (https://www.pennfoster.edu/) does that for you. If going to an actual school building isn’t right for you, and you don’t want to show up in real life, then go to Penn Foster. NHEG does have some of the Penn Foster Curriculum within their library.
Check out online high schools to see if they offer the benefits and features that you are looking for, including:
- The ability to study at your own time.
- Tuition that you can afford.
- Resources that you can get early.
- The ability to contact faculty by phone or email to get help.
- Online student discussion and FAQ forums.
GED
If you did leave school and you don’t want to enroll in adult school, there is a test you can take that is equivalent to the high school diploma. That is the GED exam. If you’re thinking of dropping out of high school because you think that the GED exam is easier, then think again! According to the website, “you need to pass 150 but there are some states that [are] letting people pass with just 145!” There are at least four subjects: Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. According to the website http://study.com/articles/A_High_School_Diploma_v_the_GED.html, the questions range from multiple choice and short-form answers to response question and answer format.
Unless you really need to drop out of high school, it is my recommendation that you stay in high school so that you don’t need to study constantly for the GED. From what I’ve learned about the GED, it seems like it is like the SAT exam, but of course the SAT is harder.
In conclusion, try to stay in high school and get your high school diploma so that you could be proud and go on to furthering your education. If not, I do hope you could go to an adult high school rather than take the GED exam. However, it is up to you to decide. Many people do drop out, so you aren’t the only one, but many others do continue on to college, no matter how old they are.
